Local Vigil For Vegas Shooting

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)-- A candlelight vigil was held in Lexington's Triangle Park to remember the victims of the Las Vegas shooting.

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and some local radio personalities took part, including Deidre Ransdell and Kenny Wall, Nash FM 92.9; Karl Shannon, and Hank 96.1 FM.

Local radio stations have put their friendly competition aside to partner up for the vigil.

"In retrospect of what happened in Las Vegas, country radio, normally we compete against each other, but, we wanted to team up and show everybody our solidarity and come together and make everybody have a little peace," said Karl Shannon of Hank 96.1 FM.

Lexington local Cassandra Gurney attended the vigil, and says the Las Vegas mass shooting demonstrates a need for a change.

"Race, hate, ethnicity, selfishness, all of those things. Let's be one. Let's throw all that stuff aside. For once, let's throw it aside and be a people," Gurney told LEX 18. "For those in Vegas, we will continue to pray for them. The deepest condolences. We can't even imagine the fear and the anguish that went on on that night, let alone those who have to bury their loved ones."

The downtown parking garage and fountains of Triangle Park is lit in red, white and blue to honor the victims.
