Ex-Bardstown Mayor Indicted On Perjury, False Swearing And Official Misconduct

Posted: Updated:

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) - The former Mayor of Bardstown, Kentucky has been indicted on three counts including perjury, false swearing and official misconduct.

John Royalty was voted out of office in April. The charges came after an investigation showed that Royalty abused his power by gathering information to use against councilwoman Keshia Copeland.

The council says Royalty asked an IT supervisor to collect the iPads of all the council members so he could install a security update.  Instead, the council claims that he allegedly went through the members' emails and even shared some of those with a private citizen.

The council voted unanimously to remove Royalty from office.
