Kentuckians Who Witnessed Las Vegas Shooting To Return To Bluegrass

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (LEX 18)-  As Jason Aldean was performing on stage, some Kentuckians were working backstage when gunshots rang out in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

James Ochsenbein and Chad Perkins were packing up and heading to the hospitality tent after a long night when they heard loud pops that they first thought were firecrackers.

Those loud noises were coming from high up in the nearby Mandalay Bay hotel. Stephen Paddock fired hundreds of rounds into the large crowd, killing 58 people and wounding 500 others.

The pair works for the Lexington based Post Time Studios and were covering the Route 91 country music festival when they became witnesses to the massacre.

Ochsenbein and Perkins have been stuck in Las Vegas since the flight waiting on police to release their equipment, which is considered as part of a massive crime scene.

Thursday, the two will be able to return to Lexington where Ochsenbein and Perkins will be reunited with their families.  They are expected to be back sometime this afternoon.
