9-Year-Old Raising Donations For Hurricane Victims

Posted: Updated:

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) A nine-year-old Montgomery County boy is raising donations to send to victims of Hurricane Irma.

Lukas Witt and his family are loading up a truck to deliver dozens of boxes of donations to Sugarloaf Elementary School which is one of the area hit hardest by the hurricane.

"I was watching a news station and I saw the damage. I was like, 'man I needed to help out', and I came up with this. I asked my mom, she said 'yeah, let's do it', and this is what we have now," said Lukas.

In just one week, Lukas says that 50 local families and some businesses came to the rescue. People in Florida can expect clothing, cleaning supplies and much much more.

Lukas hopes that with this aid, hurricane victims can focus on the future.

"Their house is destroyed, most of their houses are destroyed, we just want lots of supplies so we can give it to them," he said.

Lukas and his family are still taking donations. For more information on how to help, click here

With help from his mother and a few friends, Lukas says the items should make it to Key West by this weekend.
