Woman Charged With Murder Of Husband To Appear In Court

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) - The woman accused of assaulting her husband and letting him lie in the floor for days without seeking help, will face a judge Friday.

70-year-old Leon Dewayne Hignite was found in his home late last month. Police say he had been lying in the floor of his Holly Springs Drive home for days. Police interviewed his wife, Carol Ann Hignite, who said she didn’t seek help for the victim because she thought he would get better.

Hignite was charged with assault and booked into the Fayette County Detention Center. Days later, Leon succumbed to his injuries.

In a bizarre twist, when police went to execute a search warrant at the address, a fire broke out. No one else was inside the home at the time the flames began.

Arson investigators are working to figure out the cause of the fire.

Police have added charges of murder and neglect in addition to the assault.
