PARIS, Ky. (LEX 18) - Multiple overdoses were reported at the Bourbon County Jail Thursday night.
LEX 18 received multiple calls Thursday night reporting several ambulances and police outside the jail. Bourbon County Jail would not confirm any information to LEX 18 and referred any further inquiries to the County Attorney.
LEX 18 was able to learn that 18 women were transported from the scene and taken to the hospital. At least 3 people were confirmed to have overdosed. The rest were taken as a precaution.

Bourbon Community Hospital released the following statement, "At Bourbon Community Hospital, we take seriously our responsibility to serve the healthcare needs of our community, whether under normal circumstances or during emergency situations like our county experienced last night. Ten individuals were brought to our emergency room, all of whom have since been treated and released. Due to patient privacy laws, we are unable to share any additional details. As the local healthcare leader, our doors are always open, and we take great pride in providing the highest quality care for those we serve."
The jail had recently purchased a full body scanner in hopes of deterring situations like these.
"The direction is for everyone entering the facility to go through that scanner, obviously this is a situation where it possibly didn't work, or the process wasn't followed but again, that's under investigation," said Bourbon County Judge-Executive Michael R. Williams.
Paris Police are investigating and are waiting for blood results to determine exactly what kind of substance they are dealing with.
"This facility is safe, it is very well run. This is a really unusual incident, and we trust that we will take every step possible to keep it from happening again," said Williams.
