Men's Cross Country Continues To Improve At Fast Cats Classic

Posted: Updated:

Owensboro, Ky.-Kentucky State University men's cross country continued to trend upwards with its showing at the Fast Cats Classic hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday.

Through three meets in 2017, the men's squad had improved dramatically in the 8k from when the season started on Sept. 16 at the Berea College Mike and Mary Kay Invitational. The Thorobreds as a team recorded a time of 2:52:06, on Saturday they improved by nearly thirty minutes as a team with a finishing time of 2:23:55. Individually, the average times have decreased by almost six minutes, going from 34:25 to just 28:42.

"Every practice and every team function we talk as a team about getting better and improving ourselves," said head coach Fatimah Shabazz. "We haven't reached our goal yet, but these guys are buying into the mentality, and it's starting to produce results. We have to ride this momentum and not lose track of what we are perusing."

Sophomore Camron Galloway set the pace for the Thorobreds for the third time this season as he crossed the finish line with a time of 28:11 for a top 40 finish, out of 140 participants.

The final meet of the season for KSU will come this weekend in Wilmington, Ohio at the Jenna Strong Classic on Oct. 13.
