Man Arrested On Charges Of Rape, Sodomy, Sexual Abuse

Posted: Updated:

KNOX COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) A Knox County man was arrested on charges of raping a juvenile he had hired as a babysitter, according to KSP.

Detective Aaron Frederick says that 32-year-old James McCafferty, of Indian Creek, gave him a full confession.

McCafferty said that he met the juvenile during the NIBROC Festival in Corbin and had offered her a job as a babysitter. On September 2, he picked the juvenile up from her residence for her first day on the job. KSP says that McCafferty claimed nothing happened the first day, but on September 9, he picked the juvenile up again and took her to his house. He said that at his house, they began watching a movie and during the movie, the 32-year-old man says he "had sex" with the juvenile and then took her home.

KSP said that the juvenile says McCafferty contacted her several more times and she repeatedly ignored his requests to come back to the residence. The juvenile told her mother about what happened on September 27 and the mother contacted KSP Harlan.

On October 5th, Detective Frederick obtained a felony warrant on Mr. McCafferty charging him with rape 3rd degree, sodomy 3rd degree and sexual abuse 1st degree.

McCafferty was arrested on October 9 and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center under a $50,000 full cash bond.
