BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- A man was arrested Tuesday in connection to a fatal collision that occurred in April.
The accident happened around 9:22 p.m, April 22 on Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) near the intersection of Totten Lane. The three vehicle traffic collision claimed the life of one of the drivers and sent the two other drivers to be sent to the hospital with critical injuries.
A 1995 Chevrolet Camaro, operated by Maxwell Detzel, 22, of Fort Thomas, was traveling northbound, failed to negotiate a curve, and crossed the center line into the opposing southbound lane of traffic. Detzel struck a 2007 Dodge Magnum, operated by Ernest Wright, 39, of Cincinnati. After striking Wright’s vehicle, Detzel’s vehicle continued northbound in the southbound lanes of Dixie Highway where he struck a 2000 Honda Civic operated by Joshua Ray, 26, of Fort Mitchell.
Ray was pronounced deceased at the scene by Florence EMS. Both Detzel and Wright were transported to University Medical Center in Cincinnati by separate Air Care medical helicopters with suspected critical injuries.
Alcohol and speed were suspected factors in the collision. None of the involved drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.
Detzel, now 23, was arrested at approximately 4 p.m. in relation to this collision and charged with Manslaughter 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree 2 counts, Assault 4th Degree, and DUI 2nd Offense Aggravator.
Detzel is lodged at the Boone County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
