Nicholasville Man Sentenced To Federal Prison For Counterfeiting

Posted: Updated:

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) - A Nicholasville man was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for counterfeiting federal reserve notes.

The case started almost a year ago when detectives with the Nicholasville Police conducted an investigation which led to them to Thomas Johnson.

A search warrant was conducted at his residence on Garnett Dr. and evidence was collected.

Investigators with the US Secret Service and Detectives with the Nicholasville Police Department worked together to obtain enough evidence to charge Johnson in US Federal Court.  Investigators worked hand in hand with the US Attorney's Office to eventually file charges against Johnson.

He admitted to manufacturing and selling counterfeit money, manufacturing counterfeit $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills, and, either personally or through others, attempting to pass those bills at local retail establishments and fast food restaurants.

Under federal law, Johnson must serve 85% of his prison sentence and will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for 3 years after his release from prison.
