UNION, Ky. -- Asbury (Ky.) University claimed the team title at the River States Conference Women's Golf Fall Preview Tournament held Monday-Tuesday at Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union, Ky. The Eagles won the 54-hole tournament with two strong rounds to finish.
Asbury was in third place after 18 holes and then turned in the best team score of the tournament with a 323 in round two to go into the lead. The Eagles followed that up another solid round of 333 over the final 18 holes to clinch the title by two shots over Midway (Ky.) University.
Midway opened with a 336 for second place after the first round. The Eagles made their move shooting 331 and 330 the final 36 holes but came up short.
IU East was the first-round leader with a 331, the best of the first 18 holes played Monday. The Red Wolves ended up in third place, 11 shots off the lead in the final standings.
IU Kokomo finished fourth, a spot that it was in for the entire tournament. Likewise for Brescia and Point Park in fifth and sixth place to finish.
Hannah McCrabb led Asbury to the team title and claimed individual medalist honors as well. Her best score was 72 in the second round, which led her to a two-shot win over first-round leader Kathryn Lawler of Midway. McCrabb shot 16-over for the tournament, and Lawler was 18-over.
Hannah Scroggins placed third individually and led the Midway team scoring at 20-over for three rounds. Lawler, Midway's top player and last year's RSC medalist, was competing as an individual and did not contribute to the Eagles' team score,
Breanna Nowak placed fourth overall to lead IU East and finished 23-over par.
This week's tournament served as a preview for the RSC Tournament championship to be held at the same course in the spring season. The 2018 River States Conference Women's Golf Tournament will be held April 16-17, 2018 at Lassing Pointe GC (Union, Ky.) with the team champion qualifying for the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship May 22-25, 2018 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
