KSP: Officer-Involved Shooting In Pippa Passes

Posted: Updated:

KNOTT COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18/EKB) KSP confirms that there has been an officer-involved shooting in the Pippa Passes community.

The shooting happened on Hemppatch Branch Road this evening when an officer attempted to serve a warrant.

KSP says that a trooper and a Knott County Sheriff's Deputy were patrolling on Hemppatch and went to speak with Christopher Jacobs. The officers say they heard a disturbance coming from under the home while talking to the man.

The officers went to investigate and at that time they saw Jacobs under the home.

KSP said the officers tried to negotiate with Jacobs to come out from under the home. They claim he ran for his vehicle. The officers became involved in a struggle with Jacobs to try and get him out of the vehicle. Both officers deployed their tasers, according to KSP. The deputy reached into the vehicle to try and get Jacobs out of the vehicle. Officers say Jacobs accelerated, dragging the deputy.

The vehicle struck the deputy's cruiser. KSP said that Jacobs then put the vehicle in reverse and was moving toward the trooper at which time, the trooper fired his weapon, hitting Jacobs. The trooper and deputy gave Jacobs CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer was uninjured.
