Body Of Man Found In Pond, Foul Play Not Suspected

Posted: Updated:

CLARK COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) Police say that an elderly man was found dead in a pond Thursday afternoon in Clark County at the Fish and Game Club off Waterworks Road.

The Clark County Sheriff tells LEX 18 a conservation officer who lives near the club spotted the man in the water and quickly radioed for help. Sheriff Berl Purdue said it appears the man may have been fishing at the pond when he fell in. Police aren't sure when this happened and did not find any witnesses.

The man's body was recovered after 3 p.m.

"There’s no obvious signs of foul play or anything. Looks like either a medical issue or accidental slip in to the pond and not being able to get out," said Sheriff Berl Purdue.

Sheriff Purdue said that he knew the man personally and he was a good man. The coroner said that 78-year-old Lawrence Barrett of Winchester died of a heart attack. Scobee Funeral Home will be handling Barrett's funeral arrangements.
