LONDON, Ky. (LEX 18) - Family, friends and well-wishers alike will gather today in London for fundraiser to help a Kentucky State Trooper injured in a crash.
Trooper Ethan Lewis has called UK Hospital home since the Sept. 12 crash. Lewis was on his way to training on northbound Interstate Highway 75 near London when he ran off the road and crashed 150 feet down a steep embankment,
"One doctor told his wife he had more broken bones than not-broken bones," said Shannon Melton, a friend of the trooper's family.
Melton says Lewis has had more than six surgeries and faces lots of rehabilitation, Melton said it is going to be awhile before Lewis hits the KSP Hazard post again.
Melton organized today's fundraiser, to be held at the London Harley Davidson dealership where he works. The benefit will last from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a chili dinner, available for a donation, live music and a live auction.
