FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- Two people are fighting for their lives after a head-on collision.

It happened Friday morning on Louisville Road near Cardwell Lane.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff, a woman in a blue 2002 Ford Escape was westbound on Louisville Road (U.S. 60) when she crossed the centerline and struck a beige 2005 Chrysler minivan driving east.

The two victims in the van — Frankfort residents James Beason, 75, and his son Jim Beason, 52 — were transported to UK Hospital with life-threatening injuries, though their conditions improved over the weekend, according to officials. The woman in the SUV — 39-year-old Frankfort resident Cathy Stewart — also suffered a broken arm and leg. Her chihuahua, which was in the vehicle, was taken to Cornerstone Animal Care and life-saving measures were taken by Dr. Kimberly Smith and the Frankfort Humane Society who have been giving the dog round-the-clock treatment.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate.

The last of the storms from yesterday are finally moving out. It was a long day with severe storms causing wind, hail, lightning, and even flood damage. Now, other than a few light showers, Kentucky is quiet. Temperatures are mild and wind out of the south is running light. The StormTracker Severe Threat Index is back at a level ZERO. The calm this morning will help people get a start on the cleanup. Clouds hang around through the day, but you may see a little sunshine this morning. ...
