LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) Over 500 people gathered at the Shiloh Baptist Church on Monday to talk about combating drugs and violent crime in the city.
503 people from many churches in Lexington attended Monday's meeting of BUILD or Building a United Interfaith Lexington through Direct-Action. This event is leading up to the May 8th Nehemiah Action Assembly where more than 2,700 BUILD members are pledged to attend.
They discussed current campaigns to help the community, with a focus on mental health, neighborhood safety/crime, and predatory payday lending.
They broke up into congregations to decided on the organization's focus for 2018. All 503 voted between drugs, healthcare, and education. Drugs won overwhelmingly, making that the newest issue BUILD will focus on.
They will start researching ways to combat this issue on the December 11th meeting.
