Woman Accidentally Shoots Herself, Waits To Call Police

Posted: Updated:

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WRIL)-- A woman was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after police say she accidentally shot herself two days earlier.

It happened Saturday at a residence on 28th Street.

Police were called to the scene around 4:37 p.m. Monday and found that the parents of 45-year-old Stephanie Posey discovered their daughter in the home next to theirs after hearing her screaming.

Posey was suffering from a gunshot wound to her arm from a .22 caliber pistol recovered on scene. Posey stated that the shooting happened on Saturday while she was carrying the gun from one room to another and it accidentally discharged hitting her.

While there was no reason given by Posey as to why she did not call for help after the incident, officials have determined the shooting was accidental.

Posey was airlifted to UT Hospital for the treatment of her injury.?
