Sheriff's Office: 9-Year-Old Calls 911 Saying She'd Been Left Alone

Posted: Updated:

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) Deputies say that a 9-year-old girl called 911 in Whitley County Friday saying that the mother had been absent for over a day and the father had left with another child.

The girl was sleeping in her bed when she was awakened by her dogs. Police say she panicked when she could not find her parents and she called 911.

"I saw my dad last night before I went to bed and then, I saw my mom two days ago," she told the dispatcher.

When Deputy Brian Hensley responded to the residence on Johnny Holler Road, he worked with social services to make arrangements for the 9-year-old. The girl's mother was found in a Laurel County motel but was not arrested at the time.

When she returned home, state police responded to a disturbance complaint at the residence. 27-year-old Rhonda Flood was arrested and charged with public intoxication, second-degree disorderly conduct, and menacing.

The next day, deputies responded to a domestic complaint on Johnny Holler Road and 35-year-old Courtney G. Flood, the father of the 9-year-old, was stopped for a seat belt violation. In addition to being charged with failure to wear seat belts, he was driving on a suspended/revoked license and a digital weighing scale and what is believed to be crystal meth was found in the vehicle.
