Sen. Rand Paul Says 6 Ribs Broken, Water In Lungs After Altercation

Posted: Updated:

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (LEX 18) - U.S. Sen. Rand Paul tweeted a health update Wednesday afternoon, following an altercation with a neighbor that has sidelined the lawmaker.

In the tweet, Paul says a "final report" shows he suffered six broken ribs, up from the earlier reported five, and a pleural effusion, or water in his lungs.

"I appreciate all of the support from everyone," Paul said.

Police have charged Paul's neighbor Rene Broucher with misdemeanor assault. An attorney for Broucher has told the Associated Press that the attack was not politically motivated but, rather, resulted from a trivial dispute.

Broucher's lawyer, Matthew Baker, said his client and Kentucky's junior senator had been neighbors for 17.
