Clark Co. School Helps Send Veterans On Trip Of A Lifetime

Posted: Updated:

CLARK COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) In Honor of Veteran's Day, students at one Clark County school raised enough money to help send four veterans to Washington D.C.

"I took all of my lunch money and just donated it to a good cause," said Bailey Wood, a 6th grader at Baker Intermediate School.

The school teamed up with Honor Flight Kentucky. The organization sends veterans of WW II and the Korean and Vietnam wars to Washington D.C. to visit their memorials, absolutely free.

The students held a raffle, one dollar for a ticket, and the winner got a big box of candy.

"I actually have three veterans in my family. It was just my belief to donate money because of what they did for us, and I just wanted to donate that amount of money and I know that I could never repay for their service," said 5th grader Ragan Williams.

Bakers Intermediate helped raise more than $2,000 to send four veterans to D.C.

When Representative Andy Barr heard what the school accomplished, he said he had to come say thank you.

"I am so proud of this school, and of these students for showing their patriotism and their appreciation for the service and sacrifices of American's veterans," said Representative Barr.

The Congressman presented the school with a flag that was flown over our nation's capitol.
