LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) -- The City of Lexington said Monday afternoon that grocery giant Kroger will no longer accept city coupons for yard waste bags.

The issue, according to a statement released by the city, is a "prolonged payment dispute."

"We apologize for any inconvenience,” said Dowell Hoskins-Squier, commissioner of Environmental Quality and Public Works.

Attempts to reach Kroger for comment were not immediately successful.

The city says it is up-to-date on payment for "verified coupons," but will not pay out for expired or blank coupons.

It says Kroger has received nearly $203,000 from the city under the program since 2015.

The city says coupons are still being accepted at Chevy Chase Hardware, Home Depot, Lowe's and Meijer.
