LFUCG Therapeutic Drama Group Does 'La La Land'

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — LFUCG's Therapeutic Drama Group showcased their talents again by producing a video of participants singing a song from the award-winning movie musical "La La Land."

Therapeutic Recreation programs provide opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy activities through recreation, leisure and play. The drama program is designed to enhance the overall health and wellness of persons with special needs and allows them to demonstrate their talents.

The program works in collaboration with Stage Right Acting to teach social skills to the program participants. Martha Meehan and her son Miles do most of the work with the program. The video takes several hours to make over the course of a six-week program. Meehan, a psychologist and professor at Eastern KU, came up with the concept of the group and employed her son to use to his theater background.

They hope to showcase the group of performers' abilities and not their disabilities.

"They are working really hard to make these videos, especially under the timeline constraints," Miles told LEX 18.
