Firefighters Create Scholarship In Honor Of Crash Victims

Posted: Updated:

INDEPENDENCE, Ky. (WLWT)-- In Northern Kentucky three children who died in a car crash are being remembered in a very special way.

Following the tragedy donations poured in, creating a large check to help future students.

Independence firefighters presented the $35,000 check to the Grant County Schools Education Foundation.

This was done in memory of the kids, Hailieann, Brenden and Cailie Pollitt.

Their parents, Rodney Pollitt and Samantha Malohn, were also killed in the Oct. 26 crash.

Firefighters responding to the scene said they couldn't do anything to help at the time.

So a few weeks after, they organized a benefit for the community to give and honor the family.

"We can say we helped out," said Kenny Harney, and Independence firefighter. "We were able to help provide some closure, maybe, for the family and we're gonna help these kids live on in a scholarship form."

The scholarship fund will provide opportunities for students with special needs, specifically those with down syndrome like Hailieann.

The driver who crossed the center line, hitting the family's vehicle, has been charged with five counts of murder.
