NKY Murderer Seeks Parole: 'I’m A Different And Better Man'

FORT WRIGHT, Ky. (WLWT)-- It is Carlos Faulkner’s first time before the Kentucky Parole Board since he was convicted of murder in 1992.

He told board members Wednesday he blames his violent actions on his addiction to drugs.

“I fell in love with Lesly (and) I still love her. A part of me died when I did what I did,” Faulkner said.

Faulkner has spent the last 25 years behind bars for murdering Lesly Briede, 26, in her Fort Wright home. She was stabbed more than three dozen times and beaten with a barbell.

At the time of the crime, a life sentence without parole was not an option in Kentucky.

The victim’s family fought to have the law changed, but the Briede Bill could not be applied retroactively in Faulkner’s case.

He became eligible for parole this year for the first time in 25 years.

“I made a decision I regret every day,” Faulkner said.

Many people have sent letters to the parole board asking that Faulkner be denied parole. However, Faulkner said he is a changed man.

“The more time I’ve done, I think I’m a different and better man,” Faulkner said.

The two board members who listened to Faulkner could have made a final decision Wednesday but instead referred the matter to the entire board for a vote Monday.
