KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Barbourville teenager took a love of roller coasters and engineering to a new level when he built a coaster in his backyard.
Logan Moore, a 16-year-old sophomore at Barbourville High School, fell in love with carpentry after taking a summer course in the subject.
One day, while on vacation, Moore had an idea. The teen has always loved roller coaster, specifically the wooden variety. He noticed wood and PVC pipe in his backyard. That's when he decided to build his own coaster.
The project took two months to complete with Logan often putting in long hours. The tallest point on the ride is 8.5-feet high. The speed reaches 12-13 m.p.h. A pulley system lifts the seat/cart to its starting position.
Logan says he hopes he can encourage young people to work on projects that may seem a little scary or too complicated.
"It was definitely a great project to take on because the work has paid off. One thing I wanna say is, don’t ever think you can’t do something because I sure didn’t think I could build this. But I did," Logan told LEX 18.
