Danville 'Title Town' Rally Celebrates Two Football State Champion Teams

Posted: Updated:

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) - Monday was an exciting night in Danville where two football teams celebrated state-championships, earning the moniker ‘title town’.

Both Danville and Boyle County High Schools brought home the hardware this past weekend at the Kentucky state football championships. The schools are just a few miles apart and both programs have a longtime winning history.

Boyle County has won 8 football state championships; Danville High School has won 11.

This season Danville went undefeated in football class 2A, Boyle County was 14-1 in class 3A. Their only loss of the season came at the hands of none other than the Danville Admirals.

This is the fourth time in recent history and the first time since 2003 that both teams have hoisted the state trophy in the same year.

A big crowd came out for a rally Monday to bask in the 'Title Town' glory.

“It means a lot you know all of these people are out here celebrating not only us but Boyle too and it's not really about either team tonight, it's about everybody. So we're celebrating tonight as a community and it feels good,” said Danville football senior David Walker.

“It's a big deal Danville, Boyle County care about football and to see this many people come out and support both teams at the same time, it meant a lot,” said Boyle County football senior Kevin Hatfield.

The Danville Mayor proclaimed Friday December 8 as ‘Title Town’ day in the city.
