Sheriff: Man Arrested After Shooting At Electric Worker

HARRISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A bizarre standoff ended peacefully in Harrison County after a man allegedly confronted an electric worker and fired shots.

The worker was there to shut off the power because the homeowner of the house on Shawan Road had not paid his bill. The sheriff tells LEX 18 that Patrick Sturgill angrily confronted the woman. As she was leaving, they say Sturgill fired five shots before barricading himself in the home.

Deputies attempted to use a PA system to contact him, but he refused to leave. 

Neighbors tell LEX 18 that first responders were very patient with the suspect, "The primary order was just to try to get the gentleman out of the house. They were calling him out by name and saying 'hey, come on out let's talk about this we want to help you.' Being very understanding very calm."

Officers captured Sturgill as they say he attempted to run out of the back door of the home.

The Sheriff told LEX 18 that Sturgill has a history of mental illness. He is currently facing wanton endangerment and menacing charges.
