Midway Installs Its First Electric Vehicle Charger Station

Posted: Updated:

MIDWAY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- Midway Mayor Grayson Vandegrift, in collaboration with Kentucky Utilities and Woodford Forward, unveiled the city's first Electric Vehicle charging station Thursday.

The ribbon cutting ceremony, and official opening of the station, started at 10 a.m. in the parking lot behind Midway City Hall.

The EV charging station is open to the public.

Officials say it will take between three to four hours to get a full charge. Consumers will pay $3.28 per hour.

Woodford Forward says the state could see a rise in the amount of charging stations as early as next year.

Kentucky is set to receive up to approximately $3 million that can be spent on EV Supply Equipment as part of a Volkswagen Amended Partial Consent Decree settlement--which will appropriate approximately $20 million in environmental mitigation trust fund monies ($2.7 billion nationwide).

Woodford County citizens are encouraged to currently submit comments regarding the state's utilization of these VW funds through filling out electronic form as hosted by the Ky. Energy and Environment Cabinet.
