Crime Stoppers: Man Steals Cigarettes From Gas Station

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) Police say they are looking for a man who stole cigarettes from a Speedway on Winchester Road several months ago.

"Once he gets outside he makes a break for the back fence area, which was a little unusual, made us believe possibly he approached on foot, cause he didn't have an escape car," said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department.

Thomas said that the man stole an estimated $2,000 of cigarettes.

"I think this was something that was not premeditated. I think this was something he just looked down and saw there was an availability there," said Thomas.

The detective said that the man dropped about half of the 36 cartons while trying to scale a wall to get away, but the charges he's facing will not be reduced.

"He passed the points of sale, and now we have a felony situation on our hands," said Thomas.
