Man Accused Of Threatening To Kill Woman, Baby

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) A man was arrested after deputies say he got into a woman's car and threatened to kill her and her three-month-old child if she did not drive him to American Greeting Card Road.

The arrest happened around 3:22 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Deputies were dispatched to investigate a complaint from a female victim who said she stopped on US 25W after observing a woman walking. She said it was very cold outside and she wanted to offer the woman a ride, that is when she says a man appeared and got in her vehicle, asking her to drive to American Greeting Card Road. He said he had a gun in his bag and would kill her and her 3-month-old child if she did not take him, according to deputies.

The woman drove the man to apartments off American Greeting Card road near a church where the man asked the woman to stop and get out of the car, saying he was going to take it. Deputies say she refused because her child was still in a vehicle. They say a scuffle ensued and the man allegedly struck the woman on the side of the head and started to strangle her. She said she would give him the money in her purse if he would leave them alone.

Deputies say she went to her purse and retrieved a pistol. She pointed it at the man to defend herself. Deputies say the woman has a concealed carry license.

The man took the money and left the scene, according to deputies.

The woman told deputies that she recognized the man but was not friends or acquaintances with him. Deputies were able to determine his name and a good description of him. Three hours after the incident, 35-year-old James William Moore was arrested without incident at a business near I-75 off the West Cumberland Gap Parkway.

Moore was charged with kidnapping – adult; kidnapping – minor; terroristic threatening – third-degree; assault – 4th degree; theft by unlawful taking – auto $500 or more but under $10,000; and theft by unlawful taking all others under $500.

Deputies say that the female on the side of the road was not involved in the incident.
