Coroner IDs City's Most Recent Homicide Victim

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The woman found dead on the side of the road was shot to death, the coroner confirms.

Police say around 9 p.m. Tuesday night they received a call from someone driving by. The caller told them it appeared someone, possibly deceased, was lying on the side of Tates Creek Road.

When police arrived they found the victim, who officials said later was shot to death. The coroner has identified the victim as 39-year-old Rachel Preston.

Police shut down the road both ways for several hours in the area near McDowell Road as they investigated.

Preliminary investigation reveals that this may be narcotics-related; however, there are no suspect descriptions or motive at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lexington Police Department by calling (859) 258-3600.

According to police, there are 29 death investigations this year in the city, including this one. After a change, 28 will be categorized as homicides.

Preston's family needs help paying for her funeral as they just recently buried two family members. To help, click here.
