JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Crews responded Wednesday afternoon to fire at a home on the Fayette-Jessamine County line.

The Jessamine County fire chief said the blaze started in a fireplace, shot up through the walls and into the attic, where most of the damage was located.

The home was located near Southland Christian Church on Crosswood Place.

A large plume of smoke is visible from several miles away.

The homeowner was home at the time and tried to stop the fire with buckets of water before calling 911.

Firefighters were able to put the flames out quickly, but there was damage to the first floor and attic.

The fire chief said no one was injured but that the damage was extensive enough that the family would need to find a place to stay until some of the damage could be repaired.
