Water Main Break Causes Icy Conditions In Cul-de-sac

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)-- The roads are becoming icy in one Lexington neighborhood after a water main break.

According to one resident, it happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday night in a cul-de-sac on Green Valley Court. She says multiple people including herself called Kentucky American. A truck came out that night and said they were so busy with other issues around the city that the soonest someone can come out is 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

The resident thinks the delay is neglectful and is worried the city won’t pay for it. She says the break is not impacting her water pressure.

Susan Lancho, with Kentucky American, said a crew came out Thursday morning. It was not a priority Wednesday night because of the minimal impact and to keep their crews safe due to the extreme cold. She added that if the break was impacting traffic or was really gushing obviously it would’ve been moved up on the priority list.

The pipe is 3 inches and is a newer one by Lexington’s standards.

Lancho says there have been 12 leaks across the city in the past 24 hours. The cold temperatures are a concern.
