Man Charged In Connection To Officer Involved Shooting

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- Kentucky State Police confirm that there was an officer-involved shooting near the Fayette-Woodford County line Thursday.

In a press release, KSP says it was the result of a three-county pursuit that started on I-64 in Scott County and ended in Woodford County.

Officials received a call of a hit and run accident around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. They pursued the driver to a farm in the Pisgah Pike area.

KSP say that at the end of the pursuit, deputies confronted the man inside the truck. During the confrontation, a  Scott County Deputy discharged his firearm striking the man.

The man was treated at the scene and was transported to UK Hospital where he is in serious condition. 

The officer involved has worked for the sheriff's department for five and a half years. He has been placed on administrative leave per department policy. 

The suspect has been identified as Clarence C. Murrell, 51, of Sadieville. He is being charged as follows: 

1. No Registration Plates

2. Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)

3. Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree

4. Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree, Police Officer, (5 counts)

5. Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree

6. Attempted Murder-Police Officer, (2 Counts)

7. Reckless Driving

A spokesperson with Baptist Health Lexington confirms that Dr. Theodore Gerstle, a plastic surgeon, was arrested after leaving the hospital. He had just had a confrontation with hospital administration. Dr. Gestle's privileges have been revoked pending an investigation. He has been charged with a public intoxication charge.
