LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) When the weather outside is frightful, for your car it's not so delightful.
Charlene Smith was just one of many drivers preparing for winter weather at the Speedy Lube Friday.
"It's been sitting in the cold air, and it just needs routine maintenance," said Smith.
Mechanic Anthony Trent said that first, people need to check their tires.
"When it gets cold it takes that tire pressure down, so you got to make sure you got your tire pressure up to gauge, and the right pressure it's supposed to be at," he said.
He also said to always check your battery when temperatures plummet.
"You don't just want to crank it up and head out. It's really bad on the vehicle, bad on the motor, just everything inside," he said.
You also need to keep a close watch on your fluids, especially the amount of gas in your tank and the available anti-freeze.
"If you got the wrong fluids in it or if it's not up to the temperature when it's cold outside it can just freeze the lines up in the vehicle, then you ain't got no go or no start," Trent said.
If your car is parked outside, it is important to start it at least five minutes prior to driving.
