Father Saves Daughter's Wedding Dress From House Fire

Posted: Updated:

ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Thanks to her father, one bride's weddings dress was saved from a house fire in Rockcastle County.

"I woke up about 6:30 in the morning to my mom screaming, 'The house is on fire, the house is on fire,'" said Carley Childress.

Early Sunday morning, her family lost almost everything when their home went up in flames. Some wedding decorations were saved, and thanks to her father, so was her dress.

"I know her. Today's her wedding so that was more important to her," said Carley's father, Brian. He told LEX 18 that with only 24 hours left until his daughter's wedding, the dress was the first thing he thought to grab.

"He said, 'Just get the dress and get out.' That's the only thing he wanted for my day to be perfect," she said.

Carley said that her fiance, Eli, is a U.S. Marine. He was also a big help in making sure everyone was safe in the fire.

"He made sure my brother was out and he wanted to go back in to get more, but my dad told him, 'Look you can't, it's already in flames,'" Carley said.

On Monday, Carley and Eli celebrated their new lives with New Year's Day nuptials, and thanks to her dad, she had the dress of her dreams.

Donations to help the family can be made to an account under Carley Childress at Citizen's Bank in Mount Vernon.
