Deputy Saves Duck Stuck In Pond

Posted: Updated:

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) A Scott County sheriff's deputy put his life on the line to save a duck.

On Saturday night, someone spotted a duck stuck in the pond at Community Park in Georgetown and called for help. Deputy Jeb Barnes went home to get his waders, and then headed out onto the pond and began chipping away at the ice surrounding the duck. A two-minute video he posted on Facebook shows how he was able to safely get the duck back to dry land.

"It kept running through my head, 'what am I doing?'. But I gotta get him out of there because potentially, he could've starved to death with the temperatures being what they are right now. I wasn't going to let that happen," said Deputy Barnes.

Deputy Barnes and his fellow deputy who shot the video got the duck into the hands of animal control where he spent the night warming up. The duck is expected to be okay.
