LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) A golf club isn't the easiest thing to steal without being noticed, but a couple managed to pull it off a few months ago in Lexington, and now, detectives believe they could be on the street trying to sell their stolen merchandise.
"I think this was obviously premeditated. They came to this location solely for the purpose to steal," said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department.
Thomas said that the two stole from the Lakeside Golf Course on Richmond Road.
"The gentleman had two drivers hanging out the bottom of his jacket. As you can imagine, stealing drivers is not easy! Those things are really long," he said. "We know the combination of the theft of the golf balls, and the golf clubs was almost 15 hundred dollars. So you're talking about a felony theft here."
Detective Thomas said that he recognized the woman, and believes it is from a former criminal incident, but he is not sure.
He said that area golfers need to watch out if they recognize a deal on equipment that seems too good to be true.
"For somebody to be selling them brand new out on the street for a quarter on the dollar, should raise some red flags," he said.
