Snow Bands Moving Out / Cold Remains

Posted: Updated:

Our early-week clipper is moving out in spectacular fashion. It may be slow-moving, but the clearing line is clearly visible on the current radar image.

Due to the hazardous road conditions, and continued snowfall for eastern counties, the WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY remains in effect until later this evening. The expiration will happened between 7pm and midnight for counties east of I-75. The Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect for the Bluegrass and southern counties until 4pm or earlier as the snow clearing line continues to push east.

Model projections and current thinking will have the last of the snow leaving the far eastern counties through the late evening. Flurries may continue through early tomorrow morning, but will wrap up quickly before the sun rises.

Expect road conditions to improve as the snow finished, but the will be slow to do so. Snow and ice will remain on roadways as temperatures remain cold enough to support them. Main thoroughfares and priority roads will be better plowed and cleared and will be the safest to drive on. All other roads will continue to have poor road conditions through much of tomorrow.

Once the snow is finished, focus shifts to the dangerously cold conditions. Temperatures will drop to near or below zero degrees, and with a light west-northwesterly wind, wind chill values could reach -10° to -15.° This is when the cold gets dangerous. Stay indoors as much as possible to avoid hypothermia and rapid onset frostbite.
