Retired Thoroughbred Racehorse Makes New Friend At Scott Co. Farm

Posted: Updated:

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) The friendship between a retired thoroughbred racehorse and a quirky little donkey may sound like the subject of a children's book, but it's a reality at the Old Friends Farm in Scott County.

Gorgeous George showed up to Old Friends a few months ago and the eight-year-old donkey became fast friends with 1996 Breeders' Cup winner Alphabet Soup.

Michael Blowin welcomed Gorgeous George to Old Friends. The donkey once belonged to farm worker James Crump's father. Crump's father passed away 10 months ago.

"It's been pretty a pretty awesome experience watching him become a little celebrity. I was sort of wanting to keep him in witness protection," said Crump.

Gorgeous George is too cute to go unnoticed at the farm. He makes his presence known by running around and twirling in circles, but what makes most people smile is that fact he doesn't leave Alphabet Soup's side.

The retired racehorse and donkey have been the best of friends since day one.

"I don't have the words," Crump said with tears in his eyes.
