Rally For Legalizing Cannabis Held In Capitol Rotunda

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORT, Ky (LEX 18) The Kentucky Cannabis Freedom Coalition held a rally in the Capitol Rotunda Thursday afternoon, hoping to continue their efforts for the legalization of Cannabis use in the Commonwealth.

The cause has seen renewed support this year, including a bill drafted by a take force led by Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes.

The KCFC supports using Cannabis for medical use, curbing Kentucky's opioid epidemic and even raising state tax money if it is legalized. They argue that it is less dangerous than alcohol and many prescription drugs and that Kentucky has fallen behind the times.

"This movement has started fairly slow in Kentucky. It's about the fifth year with it now and as you can see it's continuing to build momentum. One of the reasons it's building momentum is because of all the momentum around the country. There's nine states now that have adult complete use bills and there's like 30 states that have some type of medical use bill and it's clear the direction that this is going. And it's time for Kentucky to get on board," said Tom Rector with the Kentucky Cannabis Freedom Coalition.

So far, no bills on legalizing Cannabis for any use have been brought up for a vote in the House or Senate.
