PAINTSVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — Icy conditions made fighting a house fire in Johnson County on Friday a challenge.
Officials say that a home was destroyed in the blaze that broke out about 5 p.m. on Madison Avenue in Paintsville.
Firefighters worked for three hours to keep the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.
The fire was spreading, so crews had to work quickly to make sure a nearby apartment complex didn't catch fire. The complex was evacuated as a precaution.
Firefighters say that the cold temperatures were freezing up their equipment at times, but the fire was put out.
A car parked nearby was destroyed too.
Officials also say part of the roof and walls caved in during a search of the building but that no firefighters were injured.
The fire is under investigation.
