Franklin Co. Deputy Treated After Exposure During Drug Arrest

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Franklin County Sheriff's police arrested a Lawrenceburg man on drug charges and one of its deputies was treated after being exposed to suspected illegal drugs.

Damon Ashlock, 36 was arrested Friday after deputies attempted to serve a civil paper to a home in the 800 block of Leawood Drive.

Police say upon arrival at the residence officers found a vehicle out front with a door ajar and valuables in plain view. When they went to the door of the vehicle's owner, police said they smelled marijuana and heard someone trying to dispose of something upstairs.

A police sergeant found Ashlock upstairs, where they say he admitted flushing marijuana down a toilet. Police say that when Ashlock saw that the sergeant was looking at a bag on the floor that appeared to have drug residue in it, Ashlock jumped on top of it an attempted to destroy it.

When the sergeant tried to remove the bag from Ashlock's grip, the bag ripped open, exposing the officer to the contents.

Out of concern the substance the sergeant had been exposed to could be deadly heroin or fentanyl, the sergeant was treated at Frankfort regional Medical Center. He was released without health concerns.

A search warrant was executed at the apartment, and detectives found 1.5 ounces of methamphetamine, more than $1,000 in cash and about 1 ounce of marijuana.

Ashlock was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. More charges could be forthcoming.
