Employees Disinfect Nursing Homes To Prevent Flu

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) Senior living facilities are taking extra precautions to stop the flu from spreading.

The employees at Highgrove in Lexington put on masks and disinfected every surface that the senior residents may touch in order to try and kill the flu germs.

"We are lysoling everything. Anything that residents touch - doorknobs, handrails, the elevators, table tops. Anything that the residents are touching," said Charlene Groves, the wellness director of Highgrove.

All of the seniors living in the building have gotten the flu shot, but even that, combined with all of the cleaning, hasn't spared some residents from the flu.

"The most recent was last week. We had two diagnosed. The first ones were Type A. The two this past week have been Type B," said Groves.

Those residents have been asked to stay inside of their rooms as they recover. If they do have to come out of their room, they have to wear a mask.

With this year's flu being as deadly as doctors say, they do not want to be too careful.
