Transylvania women's basketball sophomore guard Shelby Boyle has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball, the conference announced Monday.
Boyle, a sophomore from Morgantown, West Virginia (Morgantown HS), led the Pioneers to a pair of wins last week over Earlham and Manchester with double-doubles in both games.
In last Wednesday's 62-49 win on the road at Earlham, Boyle contributed a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds, adding three steals, two blocks, and one assist. Boyle shot 8-for-9 from the free-throw line, a season-high for the guard.
In Saturday's 60-45 victory at Manchester, Boyle scored 15 points and added a game-high 13 rebounds to go with five assists and two steals. Boyle shot 7-for-12 from the floor in 30 minutes of play. Nine of Boyle's 13 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
The performances were Boyle's fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season; the sophomore has registered three double-doubles over her last four games.
The player of the week award is the first of Boyle's career and the first for a Transylvania women's basketball player in the 2017-2018 season.
Boyle and the Pioneers return to play this Wednesday, February 7, 2018 as they host the Mount St. Joseph University Lions at the Clive M. Beck Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
