LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police are gathering evidence and trying to figure out what lead to the fatal shooting of Lincoln County woman Monday night.

Kala Francisco, 31, was found shot at a home on Raintree Drive.

Kentucky State Police say officers were called just before 10 p.m. to the home off U.S. Highway 127 between Hustonville and Junction City.

Reportedly the first officers to arrive tried to save Francisco. with one giving her CPR, but she died shortly after at Ephraim McDowell Hospital.

Police also said they believe Francisco's four children, ages 3 to 13, were present in the home when she was shot.

“It was pretty surprising and scared because it usually doesn’t happen here," said nearby resident Renee Shockley. "Times are getting worse though.”

Shawn E. Faulkner, 26, of Hustonville, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 1st Offense and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Lincoln County Detention Center.

They are now investigating a possible motive for this shooting.
