UPDATE: Missing Hiker Found Alive

Posted: Updated:

GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- After hours of searching, a missing hiker has been found alive.

40-year-old Jessica Burk, of Frankfort, went missing while hiking with her boyfriend at the Tom Dorman State Nature Preserve.

The couple went into the woods near Palisades Point to walk the trails around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

The boyfriend reportedly walked down a trail, and when he came back Burk was gone. After searching for her for five hours, he called police.

Burk found a road Friday morning and made her way to the command center. She said she got lost because she has a brain injury and always needs written down directions.

She told rescue crews she survived by sleeping in a treehouse/deer stand at night and drinking what little water she had on her. She said she walked all the way to the dam Thursday and felt like she was walking in circles.

LEX 18's Karolina Buczek interviewed Burk shorty after she was found and said she seemed to be in good spirits. Burk said she wanted to speak with the media, so her kids would know she is OK.
