Family Calls For Stop to Violence at Vigil for Murdered Son

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, KY (Lex 18) - A Lexington family in mourning felt the love from the community, a day after someone murdered their son.

Dozens gathered to remember 19-year old Mikel Antonio Willis Thursday night. His family shared fond memories along with profound heartbreak.

"It hurts, I don't want him to go," said Elaine Justicee, Willis' aunt. "I'm not ready to let go of him."

Police found the 19-year old shot dead near a dumpster on East Sixth Street Wednesday morning.

"Mikel was a beautiful person," Justice said. "He didn't deserved to be left the way he was."

No one has been arrested, but Willis'  family members said they're confident police will find the killer soon.

"You didn't hurt Mikel, you hurt us," Justic said. "You took away somebody so precious that we love and care about."

Thursday night the family also preached a message of love and togetherness.

"We need to start coming together as a community," Justice said. "Look at Lexington, look at the ripple. Look at all the innocent young blood."

They also called for a stop to the violence, as their son is the third young life lost in Lexington this week.
