Lexington Filmmaker Releases Film About Epilepsy

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) Epilepsy will claim 50,000 lives this year, but advocates say that the neurological disorder is severely underfunded. One Lexington woman is working to change that.

The film "Voice of the Epilepsies" brought to life the heart-wrenching battle young Savannah faces. Savannah was diagnosed with a severe form of epilepsy as a toddler.

"I count them, she's had 27,386 seizures," her mother says in the film.

"Voice of the Epilepsies" is a film by Lexington filmmaker Tiffany Webb. The topic hits close to home for the Springfield native.

"Epilepsy can also be an invisible condition as it has been for me, and you can't really tell by looking at me that I have it," she said."

By depicting the trials and tribulations of the complex disorder, Webb hopes that the film with serve as a platform for awareness.

"We're trying to help people understand, so we can quicken our pace to finding the solution, finding a cure that will ultimately save thousands of lives," she said. "I thought if I could put Epilepsy out there, create some awareness, then I could make a difference."

The project has been more than five years in the making. It has received major backing, including funding from director Jim Abrahams whose son has epilepsy.

You can watch the film on Vimeo.
