Estill County Under Flood Warning

Posted: Updated:

ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- Emergency management in Estill County says the county is under a flood warning until Feb. 14. They have also released flooding details for the area.

As of 10:15 a.m. Monday, the Kentcuky River was at 25.28 feet. It is expected to crest at 27.2 feet Monday evening.

Roads that are currently flooded: Red Lick Rd., Millers Creek Rd., Dark Hollow, Noland Creek, Murphy’s Ford and Sang Branch.

They are asking that residents in flood areas not to cross flooded roads. Please find an alternate route. The water is moving quickly and rising at a steady pace. Not only can the water float your car, but you cannot tell if the road has been washed away.

Information from FEMA:

  • Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and potential stalling.
  • A foot of water will float many vehicles.
  • Two feet of rushing water will carry away most vehicles, including SUVs and pickups.
